Ardbeg Corryvreckan takes its name from the famous whirlpool that lies to the north of Islay. This is where the Viking prince Breacan anchored his ship for three days and nights to win the hand of the daughter of the Lord of the Isles – yet was lost to its watery depths. A legendary whisky. But like the whirlpool itself, not for the faint-hearted.
NOSE – Heady, intense and powerful – creosote, waxy dark chocolate, blackcurrants and muscovado sugar. Plump cherries and pine needles. A splash of water and cayenne peppered steak, treacle, cloves and blueberries rise to the surface.
TASTE – Swirling torrents of deep, peppery, peaty taste – crispy seaweed, espresso coffee, dark fruits and star anise.
FINISH – Long, deep and remaining powerful with chocolate-coated cherries, tarry coffee and pepper sauce.
